WordCamp US 2022 – Highlights

After two long years, in-person WordCamps are back! WordCamp US 2022 took place from September 9-11. It turned out to be a success, with many leading WordPress contributors showing up and sharing their experiences and tips with the WP community. For those who managed to attend this event, we’re pretty sure you’ve made memories that are staying for life. However, for those who unfortunately missed this amazing event, go through these highlights to live the experience right now

WordCamp US 2022

What is WordCamp US 2022?

WordCamp is an event for those interested in everything about WordPress. Innovators and creators from all industries are welcomed to this event to share their experiences and ideas, making WordPress’s open-source software a better platform for all to utilize.

Regardless of whether you are a newbie setting up your first site, or a professional coder developing a new plugin, WordCamp is the best event to be at to discover and learn about new opportunities through:

  • Sessions
  • Discussion Panels
  • Workshops
  • Networking opportunities with other experts

Besides that, this event is loaded with lots of fun stuff, including free giveaways, amazing prizes, and after-hour parties for those who attend the event.

WordCamp US 2022 In San Diego

The 2022 event took place in San Diego, California. Apart from participating in the event, I’m pretty sure people enjoyed the warm weather at one of the local beaches and tasted some of the best Mexican food in the country.

One feature of WCUS 2022 that impressed me this year was the Job Board. Attendees got the opportunity to post and browse job openings.

Day 1: Opening Day

The first day starts with attendees checking in and visiting sponsor booths. The event was opened by Kathy Drewien, highlighting the importance of how people need to be together again in person.

Nathan Ingram gave a session about how to grow a business while dealing with client work and how to spend time in different blocks.

Nick Diego showed live at WordCamp US 2022 that a custom block can be built in 15 minutes. – Quite amazing!

Sajid Islam

Sajid Islam discussed a cookie-less future with Google Analytics 4.

Stephanie Bernal

Stephanie Bernal stole the show by discussing improving a website’s performance and Google Tag Manager. This session couldn’t be missed for those who struggled to get ranked on Google and weren’t aware of the importance of Google Tag Manager.

Day 1 of the WordCamp US was all about connecting and learning new things from all the speakers that contributed.

Day 2: Sessions

Day two was filled with excitement as attendees were ready to participate in sessions related to commerce, design, cultural intelligence, and much more.

Peyta Raykovska started discussing how multicultural teams can often lead to unintentional miscommunication barriers.

Beka Rice

Beka Rice shared her expertise by discussing about the difference between single, multi, and Omni channels:

Rich Tabor

Rich Tabor made a strong statement related to block themes and full site editing by saying:

“Patterns are the primary way [of] interacting with the editor. They’re the ultimate shortcut. In addition, styles and variations are the most interesting part of a block theme to make it your own.”

Felix Arntz

Felix Arntz discussed a common problem many WordPress developers face. His opening statement was,

“WordPress websites are slow.”

No one can argue on this! However, he also mentioned how WordPress sites could improve, considering the Core Web Vitals metrics.

Day 2 was also great for learning more about how WordPress can be used to build your business and how to deal with many hurdles faced while developing and managing WP sites.

Day 3 (Contributor Day)

The third and final day of WCUS 2022, the Contributor Day, went as planned, with hundreds showing up dedicated to sharing their thoughts and experimenting with improving the WordPress open-source project. People of all skill sets spent time together to learn and work in areas like hosting, accessibility, design, and more.

  • Contributor Day: 300 people attended.
  • Speakers:40 speakers were chosen for WCUS 2022.

WordCamp US 2022 turned out to be a blast for many. Everything seemed terrific for all the attendees, from participating in this amazing event to enjoying all the amazing places in San Diego.

If you missed WCUS 2022, don’t worry because the event will be back next year. WordCamp US 2023 will be in National Harbor, Maryland, on August 23-25.
