After being postponed back in 2020 due to the pandemic, Bangkok, Thailand, was chosen to host the historical event, as it was the 1st ever flagship WordCamp to take place in Asia. The event was successful as thousands came to experience the WCAsia from across the globe, including our CEO, Mr. Saad Iqbal, and Community Manager, Mr. Zubair Siddiq, between the 17th and 19th of February, 2023.

It was a three-day event. The first day was Contributor Day, while the other two days were for meetups, conferences, demonstrations, and a whole lot of fun!
Contributor Day
The event started with the first day being dedicated to the WordPress community to sit together in teams and simply ‘Contribute.’

As WordPress is an open-source CMS, participants were divided into 21 teams that worked on areas ranging from Community and core to polyglots and design.
Attendees join a table of the team they are interested in during Contributor’s Day. They discover there how they may contribute to the initiative. After they are stable, they can join and begin to contribute. As WordCamp is an open environment to learn anything and everything about WordPress, attendees who are uncertain can join various tables.
Here are a few glimpses of what happened during the 1st day of WordCamp Asia 2023.

I had been waiting for WordCamp Asia since 2017 when this idea and possibility was first discussed… finally it happened #WCAsia pic.twitter.com/kRtC3D0C6K

Organizer, Naoko Tanko, took the stage during the closing remarks to relay a simple message: “We did it.”
What made this event more remarkable was the fact that it got canceled two years back at the last moment. And after waiting this long, the WordPress community came together and made the 1st WordCamp Asia successful.
WordCamp Asia 2024
WCAsia 2023 turned out to be a blast. As the event ended, the venue for WordCamp Asia 2024 was also announced. The 2nd edition of WCAsia will take place in March in Taipei, Taiwan. Have a look at the city.

And, It’s a Wrap! (After the “After Party, of course“)
We all needed the after-party to make this already fantastic experience better. The night was filled with live music, excellent food, and some dances.
The #WCAsia after-party was one for the books.
