In the WordPress ecosystem, few names carry the same weight as Michael Eisenwasser. With a career spanning over a decade, from founding a successful WordPress agency to co-creating and scaling BuddyBoss, one of the most influential platforms for online communities.
Michael has always been at the forefront of innovation in the space. After the successful exit from BuddyBoss, he set his sights on solving one of the biggest challenges faced by dynamic WordPress sites: hosting performance at scale.
Enter Rapyd Cloud—a next-generation WordPress hosting platform purpose-built for speed, scalability, and real-time performance. In this exclusive interview, Michael shares the journey behind Rapyd Cloud, insights into the evolving WordPress landscape, and advice for entrepreneurs looking to build in this vibrant ecosystem.
Q1. How long have you been in the WordPress industry?
I have been working with WordPress since 2010. Originally, I ran a WordPress agency, and then launched BuddyBoss shortly after.
Q2. After establishing and selling BuddyBoss, what motivated you to launch Rapyd Cloud, and how does it address challenges you observed in the WordPress hosting space?
We had been considering launching a hosting company for years. At BuddyBoss, we consistently ran into performance challenges—our customers were building highly dynamic, community-driven WordPress sites with thousands of concurrent logged-in users, all viewing personalized content. Traditional WordPress hosts simply weren’t built for that level of complexity, and performance issues became the most common source of frustration for our customers.
That experience inspired us to create Rapyd Cloud: a platform purpose-built for speed, scalability, and the demands of modern WordPress applications. It’s the solution we always wished existed, optimized from the ground up for dynamic, high-traffic sites.
Q3. What emerging trends in the WordPress ecosystem excite you, and how is Rapyd Cloud positioning itself to leverage these developments?
One of the most exciting trends we’re seeing is the shift toward headless WordPress and API-driven architectures. This evolution brings a new set of challenges from a hosting perspective. API-based sites and apps are more demanding on the server side, requiring low-latency responses, high concurrency, and infrastructure that can handle complex, dynamic workloads.
Rapyd Cloud was designed with this future in mind. It was initially built to support the BuddyBoss App, a fully headless, API-powered mobile experience. As more developers adopt similar architectures, Rapyd Cloud is uniquely positioned to support these advanced use cases with infrastructure designed for speed, scalability, and real-time performance.
Q4. Your background spans design, development, and entrepreneurship. How have these disciplines influenced your leadership role at Rapyd Cloud?
My background in design and development directly influences how I lead the product team at Rapyd Cloud. I’m deeply involved in shaping the user experience, from designing and scoping features to refining the interface of our dashboard, where customers manage every aspect of their WordPress hosting.
On the entrepreneurial side, my experience running BuddyBoss provided a strong foundation for leading a company. At Rapyd Cloud, I oversee day-to-day operations, guide the team, and ensure we remain focused on delivering real value to our customers. Having worn many hats over the years helps me bridge the gap between vision and execution across the company.
Q5. How many WordCamps have you attended so far? What’s your opinion about the global WordPress community?
I’ve attended many WordCamps over the years, including multiple WordCamp US, WordCamp Europe, and WordCamp Asia events and several local WordCamps in Chicago.
What I love about the WordPress community is its friendliness, openness, and collaboration. Even when you’re talking with competitors, the atmosphere is all about sharing ideas, building connections, and helping each other grow. It’s a rare kind of ecosystem that truly fosters innovation through community.
Q6. What’s your approach to scalability for high-traffic WordPress sites on Rapyd Cloud?
Scalability is at the core of our infrastructure at Rapyd Cloud. We’ve built the platform to automatically scale resources up or down based on demand, ensuring consistent performance regardless of the site’s traffic volume. One of our most significant advantages is the sheer volume of PHP workers we allocate (significantly more than any other managed WordPress host), which allows us to support a very high number of concurrent users without slowdown.
We also utilize LiteSpeed, advanced object caching, and other cutting-edge technologies in our stack, all of which are chosen for their ability to deliver speed and efficiency at scale. Every layer of our system is optimized for handling dynamic, high-traffic WordPress environments.
Q7. Your recent benchmark report compared Rapyd Cloud to other major players like Kinsta and WP Engine. What were some of the most surprising insights from that testing?
Rather than citing our internal benchmarks, I’ll point to an independent review conducted by WP Lift, which ran their third-party performance tests on Rapyd Cloud. You can read the full review here.
One of the most surprising and validating results came from their load testing, which simulated a traffic spike from 100 to 5,000 concurrent users over 30 minutes. Despite the massive usage, response times remained consistent, and average page load times increased by only 11% at peak traffic, compared to slowdowns of over 300% with most other major hosts under similar conditions. That kind of performance under pressure highlights the scalability of our infrastructure.
Q8. There’s no shortage of managed WordPress hosts like Kinsta, WP Engine, Cloudways, and so on. What makes Rapyd Cloud stand out in such a crowded space?
What sets Rapyd Cloud apart is our unmatched performance and scalability for dynamic, high-traffic sites with large numbers of concurrent users. Most managed WordPress hosts are built for static or low-traffic blogs, but we’ve optimized every infrastructure layer for demanding, real-time applications.
In addition to raw speed, we deliver best-in-class security and compliance standards, which are essential for businesses handling sensitive data or operating at scale. And we back it all with a support team that’s deeply technical and highly responsive, with incredible feedback and testimonials from our customers.
Q9. What’s on the horizon for Rapyd Cloud? Is there any particular initiative you’re excited about?
We recently launched our multi-site plans, which let customers host multiple WordPress sites within a single server container. This was our most requested feature, and the response has been overwhelmingly positive, especially from agencies managing an extensive portfolio of sites.
Looking ahead, we’re focused on expanding this feature set to make Rapyd Cloud the go-to hosting solution for WordPress agencies. We’re already partnering with some of the leading names in the space, including Seahawk Media, Hawke Media, Codeable, and many others.
Q10. We heard you’re passionate about tennis. How do you manage time from your busy working schedule for sports activities?
I make it a priority to play tennis at least once a week, and sometimes twice if possible. I also take an annual fishing trip and a yearly ski trip with close friends — both have become essential traditions for recharging.
One of my favorite quotes is “focus on energy instead of time.” Running a business comes with constant demands, and it’s easy to fall into the trap of working nonstop. But I’ve found that maintaining physical health and mental energy is far more valuable. It helps me make better decisions, avoid burnout, and ultimately live a more balanced and fulfilling life.
Q11. What advice would you give to budding entrepreneurs looking to build their product or service in the WordPress ecosystem?
Start by identifying a real problem that isn’t being solved effectively, and focus relentlessly on delivering an exceptional customer experience. In the WordPress ecosystem, strong customer support goes a long way in building a good reputation and reducing churn.
Also, listen closely to your users. Their feedback is one of your most valuable tools for shaping your product. And of course, leverage AI where possible to stay lean, automate repetitive tasks, and operate more efficiently as you scale.
