Day 1: WordCamp Europe 2025 Contributor Day (5th June 2025)

WCEU 2025 started strong with Contributor Day, where 640 passionate contributors rolled up their sleeves to make WordPress better. There’s something magical about watching first-time contributors nervously getting involved, only to leave hours later with huge smiles and their first WordPress contribution under their belt.

Our Murtaza Asghar Ali contributed by testing plugins and Themes.

The collaborative energy shown by the WordPress community was amazing! Experienced developers took the time to guide newbies through their first patches while accessibility specialists offered information that made us all better developers. It was a reminder of why we first fell in love with this community.

Day 2: Mind-Blowing Sessions and Keynotes (6th June 2025)

Noel Tock’s keynote, “WordPress Without Borders—The Fight for Digital Freedom,” struck us right in the heart.

He didn’t speak to us about code and features, but he reminded us that we’re part of something more, something that truly enables people across the globe.

A comment on Noeltock’s presentation at WCEU.

WordPress isn’t merely our go-to tool daily; it’s a digital human right.

Murtaza visited several brand booths in WCEU Basel day 2, including WP Umbrella, where he met with Aurelio Volle (CEO) and his team.

At Progress Planner, he connected with Marieke van de Rakt and Taco Verdonschot to chat about effective planning for WordPress users.

With 45+ sessions to choose from, we practically ran between rooms trying to catch everything.

The AI-powered automation workshops by Marcel Tannich had us scribbling notes furiously.

He emphasized that we should work faster and smarter by automating repetitive tasks, which can save us time and money.

WPExperts at WCEU

The teen meets veteran: two perspectives on WordPress sessions by Elin Krauer and Luzi Stadler took us back in time. They emphasized how we started building with WordPress and how we do it now.

Every conversation in the hallways sparked new ideas, and we found ourselves already planning how to implement what we learned.

Day 3: Connections That Matter (7th June 2025)

The final day brought us the highly anticipated “Ask Matt Anything” session. Matt Mullenweg and Mary Hubbard shared exciting glimpses into WordPress’s future, including updates about the AI team and upcoming European regulations.

He also spoke with Sirvelia’s representative, exchanging ideas on the WordPress ecosystem.

At the WSForm booth, he had a great conversation with Mark WestGuard about the future of form building in WordPress.

The block themes sessions by Ellen Bauer opened our eyes to possibilities we hadn’t even considered.

John Mueller (Google Search Advocate) also appeared at the WCEU Basel 2025. He discussed some myths about ranking in Google Search. He also provided actionable guidance on how to rank and what really matters.

But honestly, the real magic happened during the countless conversations over coffee and lunch.

WCEU Basel Day 3

The WCEU 2025 After-Party was the perfect finale—watching WordPressers from 84 different countries dance together, share stories, and form friendships that’ll last well beyond the conference.

These are the moments that make our community special. Take a look at the WordPress WCEU Basel 2025 after-party moments.

Already Dreaming of Kraków 2026

As we packed our bags in Basel, the announcement that WordCamp Europe 2026 will be in Kraków, Poland, had us immediately checking our calendars. If this year taught us anything, the WordPress community keeps getting stronger and more inspiring.

Gratitude All Around

None of this would have been possible without the incredible organizers, volunteers, and every attendee who brought their energy and passion to Basel. We’re already counting the days until we can do it all again in Poland.

See you in Kraków, Poland, next year, WordPress fam!
